Importance of transition to Kinder

You're nearly ready for 'big' school

Starting school is a significant and exciting milestone for children and their families. While the transition to primary school can bring both new challenges and great excitement, there are many ways you can help your child feel ready and supported.

You can ease the transition by:

  • Encouraging them to share and explore their feelings.
  • Helping them feel connected to their new school.
  • Supporting them as they build friendships and positive relationships.
  • Empowering them to grow in confidence and independence.

Support your child to transition to primary school with our  Getting ready for primary school  guide.

A positive transition to school is widely acknowledged as a crucial milestone in the lives of young children and their families. This experience plays a key role in supporting each child’s wellbeing, as well as their long-term educational and social success. The transition period also offers a valuable opportunity to engage with families, helping them become active partners in their child’s learning journey.

In Term 3 we will be holding a Parent Information session for you to learn more about what we offer at our school. We will hold three sessions in Term 4 for your child to be part of the classroom setting at Warrimoo Public School.

The benefits of these orientation sessions include:

  • getting to know each child’s prior knowledge and skills through close communication with families.
  • helping children become familiar with school routines, procedures, and the physical environment.
  • encouraging children to build positive relationships with school staff, peers, and the wider school community.

Best Start Assessment

The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment is a state-wide assessment that helps teachers identify the literacy and numeracy skills which your child brings with them at the beginning of kindergarten. Assessments will be conducted at Warrimoo Public School in the first few weeks of school.
